Futility

“What profits a man if he gains the world
but loses his soul?”
– Jesus Christ

“He who ascends to mountain-tops, shall find
The loftiest peaks most wrapt in clouds and snow.”
– fr. Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage, Lord Byron (1788-1824)

FUTILITY

(Wealth and glory must you debit
if health and honor, you credit?)

you start journey through life with full vigor

the dream you pursue is worth your labor

you stumble and fall but the goal is tall
so you persist and endure as you toil

the higher you climb, the more nauseating
your mind gets numb, struggle is suffocating

then comes the time when you reach the plateau
you reap some fruits but taste bitter to you

you want to come down, you cannot return
your urge is gone, no energy to burn

what matters at all if you reach the peak
if by that time, you had become a freak?

– between
wheel(ing) and deal(ing)
is futile.
