May’s Ordeal

“My tea’s gone cold I’m wond’ring why
I got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window
And I can’t see at all
And even if I could it’ll all be grey
But your picture on my wall
It reminds me, that it’s not so bad
It’s not so bad.”

– fr. the song  Stan, Eminem

MAY’S ORDEAL
(for May E., 19, student, pregnant,
unusual friend, lover of my poems)

(If in the name of love, a girl gives all
If for the sake of promise, undies fall
And belly swells noticed under her skin
Then reap the ire of folks and curse of kin.)

eleventh hour at hand
trapped in the dark you stand
carry on bravely well
expel do not, the swell

torment of kin ignore
ever be strong, the more
retract your love never
he’s with you forever.

– friends
are between
odds and ends.

– lovers
are between
beds and bends.
