For the Love of You

FOR THE LOVE OF YOU
(Love premised on promise is compromise.)

the things I can make, anyone can make
but for you my love, and just for your sake
i can work wonders that no one can do
these things I will do, for the love of you.

i can cast pebbles on stillest water
without rippling waves (no circles scatter)
as upon your black hair, the strong wind blows
but uprooting not, any strand that grows.

i can tie a tiger’s stripes into knots
that he will think he’s a leopard with dots
like the spots your footprints leave on the shore
that tumultuous waters wash with uproar.

i can quickly climb a rungless ladder
right up the heavens where I will gather
all brilliant stars to lay heap by your toes
so there they may glow to wither your woes.

i can pluck whole notes from a lovely song
and make them necklace, for you they belong
to wear ‘round your neck, where they all glitter
white pearls they become, with you as keeper.

the things I can make, anyone can make
but for you my love, and just for your sake
i can work wonders that no one can do
these things I will do, for the love of you!
