Mirror (Mirror)

“First autumn morning:
the mirror I stare into
shows my father’s face.”

– Kijo Murakami (1865-1938)

MIRROR (MIRROR)
(What you see in the mirror
either charms or alarms.)

greatest liar, the mirror is!

you look at the mirror
you see your image…
not the real you
but your exact opposite:
an illusion.

why?

because you see yourself
in reverse!

(your image so plain
on the surface plane
“it’s me.”, so you said
but never be swayed.

that image: untrue
is not the real you
then better be true
there is but one you!)

– between you and (you) is mirage.
– between face and phase is visage.
– between countenance and appearance is facade.
