(the Aurora Borealis*
seen from Isle of Skye, Scotland,
August 10, 1987, 5:45 PM)
(‘Shifting Shades’ is my allusion
to Life’s ever-changing ‘colors’.
It is my metaphor on the constantly
varying faces and phases of existence;
as color spectrum, as Aurora Borealis.)
soft clouds swirl away
beacon of deep colors
the sky shimmers ablaze
translucent like fire
and brilliant as moonbeam.
(life is a specter –
a spectrum of colors:
changing hues from end to end,
shifting shades at every stage.)
two colors in spectrum
is shifting shade.
two phases in life
two faces of existence

* A colored glow visible late afternoon or at night in high latitudes.
It has the appearance of a fan of ascending luminous streamers
near the northern horizon, and is supposed to be of electrical origin.
