August Ghost

“Though death and darkness gather all about me
And my ship be torn apart upon the sea
I shall smell again the fragrance of these islands
In the heaving waves that brought me once to thee.”

– fr. lyrics of  For You are Beautiful, 60’s Arts

AUGUST GHOST
(for Susan S., 1974)

play no “killer game”
with me, Susee.

(… waves upon my ship.)
(… raves upon my sleep.)

the dead touch of cold mist
wetting the budding daisy
of your lush garden
chills not my hands
but my bald head.

guide it
into your august cavern
where I can quench,
not my thirst
but my yearning

for sweet flower.

– between
you and me
is intricacy.

(c) 1974 Chito L. Aguilar
