Amber Kiss

“Plastered with placards for
that bitter beer that
tastes sweet to its drinkers.”

– fr. Duino Elegies, “The Tenth Elegy”,
Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 – 1926), German poet

brewed pilsen paints
the twilight with
amber hues.

foamy froths lick this
frosted mug then kiss
my lips with a hiss.

ah, what bliss!

i savor the flavor
of blended malt and yeast
brewed to perfection:

neither saline nor saccharine.

my mind,
by fermented
amber hues

in a twilight kiss!

– between
saline and saccharine
is the tongue.
