An Amber Trip

“Drink! for you know not whence you came, nor why;
Drink, for you know not why you go, nor where.”

– Omar Khayyam (1050? – 1122),
Persian mathematician, astronomer, and author

AN AMBER TRIP
(with Red Horse Beer)

i gallop to where
the pink sun sinks
carving the arriving darkness;
where a million stallion hooves
race traceless on the faceless
crimson sky –

over the edge of frameless amber.

(between
gait and gallop
is rhythm.

between
walk and sprint
is cadence.

between
horse and man
is pace.)

– amber trip
is between
beer’s drip and dear’s grip.
