So Hard to Be Good

“Everyone is dragged on
by their favorite pleasure.”

– fr. Eclogues, Virgil (70 – 19 BC),
Roman poet

“Pleasures newly found are sweet
When they lie about our feet.”

– William Wordsworth (1770 – 1850)
British poet

(Predicament vs. Predilection)

you are in your prime
in the pink of health
you have all the time
to enjoy your wealth.

with places to go
and nice games to play
can never say no
to charms of today.

then better not brood
forget the pressure
so hard to be good
relish the pleasure.

– between
pressure and pleasure
is predicament.

– between
being good and being bad
is predilection.
