Teens in the ’70s

“Break up to make up
That’s all we do
‘cos you love me, then you hate me
That’s a game for two.”

– fr. lyrics of  Break Up to Make Up, The Stylistics

(the 4-B Stags in the “Age of Aquarius”)

the Stylistics of our youth –
when we were teens
in blue jeans;

a time when intimate soft whispers
with discomfited dance rhythms
(of Bread, Santana, Deodato, et. al.);

the deepening summer night
is mute witness
to the sudden vanishing
of the dim red light,

ushering the age of discotheque.

– between
dance and chance
is romance.

– between
teen-age and old-age
is age.
