Fates Meet

“There is a road from the eye to the heart
that does not go through the intellect.”

– G. K. Chesterton (1874 -1936)
British writer and poet

(Our fate is not written among the stars.
It is not hinged on the orbit of Mars.
It is neither ruled by all the planets
nor dictated by the poles of magnets.

It is Nature’s equal-and-opposite-reaction
to the implicit summation of all our action.)

the tip of the tongue
and the lid of the eye –
colleagues that never meet.

but when the tongue articulates
and the eye gesticulates,
their songs blend
their fates meet.

tongue and eyes
is language.

tongue and lips
is speech.

eyes and lips
is communication.)

– intellect
is between
impression and expression.
