Taste of Dusk

TASTE OF DUSK
[a nonet*]

sun
swallows
the tart light
leaving the hills
in bitter darkness
crickets sing spicy tunes
acrid moon climbs a sour sky
pouring her sweet nectar on earth
the salty seas rise in bland protest.

((we are like the nonet, [we begin]
a natural verse form- [an organic life]-
we start from one syllable [as a single cell]
in arithmetical precision [by biological mitosis]
expand iamb-by-iamb [we grow little-by-little]
adding syllables and words [developing gradually]
growing line-by-line [to full maturity]
in metrical cadence [we flow in rhythm]

then [finally]

on 9th syllable of 9th line [at the finish line]
we cease [we die]
like all verses.)) [as all living cells.]
