Nature Speaks

“I have made mysterious Nature my religion…
to feel the supreme and moving beauty of the spectacle
to which Nature invites her ephemeral guests,
that is what I call prayer.”

– Claude Debussy

(We are deft in nature
but we are deaf to nature.)

between our lingo
and the language of Nature,
we ignore our ignorance.

is it because humans’ words
are not in-tune with Nature’s chords?

who understands the leaves rustling?
who knows what the murmuring brook is saying?
who hears the snoring of sea beds?
who listens to the silence of shadows?

the gift of speech is not exclusive
to those with mouth or tongue.
the gift of hearing is not limited
to those with ears alone,
those with skin or bone.

language is universal.

does Mother Nature commune with us
in more ways
though we may not realize or understand?

– we are between deft and deaf.
