Embers

“They say my verse is sad: no wonder;
Its narrow measure spans
Tears of eternity, and sorrow,
Not mine, but man’s.”

– A. E. Housman (1859 – 1936)

EMBERS
(Fan the ember to keep it glowing
and stoke the fire to keep it burning.)

embers of coal glowing
tapered smoke twirling low
cadence of wind blowing
embers, embers, aglow…

tears on embers falling
each drop fading their glow
rhymes in my head flowing
as embers die, so slow…

(between
ember glow and amber flow
is emotion.

between
pyre flare and fire flair
is sensation.)

– intuition
is between
emotion and sensation.
