Mental Eclipse

“A mind not to be changed by place or time.
The mind is its own place, and in itself
Can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven.”

– fr. Paradise Lost, John Milton (1608 – 1674)

Voice of the Parish: Save the Mentally Ill

(The mind is the asylum of fire and mire.)

when the mind is in eclipse,
the dull umbra billows
and swallows reason slowly
while the penumbra of wisdom
bellows voiceless in protest,

for naught.

the shadow of irrationality
comes as a noiseless thief,

stealing common sense
‘til it is nothing but

umbra and penumbra
is a shifting shade of grey.

rationality and irrationality
is common sense.)

– intelligence
is between
prudence and impudence.
