Night Walk

Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never Is, but always To be blest.”
– Alexander Pope (1688 – 1744),
English poet

NIGHT WALK

shadows deepen in ambiguity
naked stillness paints obscurity
a hungry night owl in devious prowl
my lone cohort in nocturnal stroll.

sandals hushed in trepid silence walk
haunt like predators-of-prey in stalk
my dreary steps in rhythmic cadence
as desolate darkness numbs my sense.

truncated trunks and twisted twigs mark
forsaken roadsides in cloak of dark
the road ahead, grey ribbon winding
with chilly silhouettes unending.

against the bleak, dismal mist I gaze
this boring hike puts my mind in haze
but thought of a new day cheers me up:
a bright tomorrow when sun is up.

– between
dark side and bright side
is a stroll.

– between
bright side and dark side
is a fall.
